The Shelby County Sheriff's Office General Investigation Bureau is responsible for the investigation of all personal and property related crimes in Shelby County. The bureau is separated into two units: The Personal Crimes Unit and The Property Crimes Unit. The Personal Crimes Unit is responsible for investigating all homicides, assaults, arsons, robberies, sex crimes, domestic violence, and any other crime of a personal nature.

The Property Crimes Unit is responsible for investigating all burglaries, auto thefts, frauds, thefts of property, and any other crime dealing with property.
